A small habitat

A habitat of the truncated cylinder type.  The interior of the main cylinder is a hemi-paraboloid, with a large 'stem' rising along the center line of the paraboloid.  The stem is topped by a small observatory park, which is visible as the smaller 'bubble' in the center of the large one.  The large one, in turn, allows light to enter the central habitat, which is mostly parkland.  The subsurface levels contain residences, businesses, industry, etc.  Such stations are usually set to orbit their primaries (planets or moons) at one-day intervals, and orbit in a tidally locked position -- in other words, the central habitat area is exposed to sunlight on a 24 cycle.  The solar panels are usually enough to provide for the colony, although most such colonies also have a fusion plant for emergency use.

Due to their resemblance to shotglasses, these hab cylinders are often called simply Shotglass Habs.  They are also sometimes called Telescope Habs, due to the resemblance to newtonian telescopes.

Note the starships docked at the far end of the power/industry spine.  They show the scale of the hab -- roughly 400 m. in diameter, and about 1 km from the tip of the observation dome to the base of the docking spine.  It's fairly small by colony hab standards; the largest are matrices of dozens of full-length cigar habs, often tens of kilometers in length.
