Lyrics for Wang Fei songs.

Because Ms. Wang (Wang Fei ¤ý µá , aka Faye Wong) writes (and she does indeed usually write her own stuff) in Chinese (usually Mandarin), it may be relateively inacessible to the casual Western listener.  Because I happen to know Mandarin pretty well, I thought it might be helpful if I translated some of her songs into English.  Please forgive my translations in any case (they're far from perfect), and please note that I have in many cases taken poetic liberty to preserve the meaning where the actual words would defeat the purpose in English, although I have tried to maintain the general word order for anyone who might want to try to guess at what the specific Chinese words mean.

Songs available are listed below.

Fenlie ¤À µõ , "Broken apart."

Saoxing ±½ ¿³ , "Ruining the Mood."

Fenlie ¤À µõ , "Broken Apart"

Broken apart
Broken apart
On one side looking naive and innocent
On the other seeing all as broken

Broken apart
Broken apart
On one side exhausted in strength from love
On the other I don't give a shit

It's all because I
held you
Drop by drop, drip by drip
Left in my hands

It's all because you
held me
There's no space
For me to breathe

Broken apart
Broken apart
On the one side strongly facing it all
On the other needing to act wildly

Broken apart
Broken apart
Protecting one person's world
Flowing two people's blood

It's all that
embrace's fault
One-half cold
One-half hot

It's all that
embrace's fault
One-half heaven
One-half earth

(My thinking cells
Don't stop breaking up...
Breaking up
Breaking up...)

It's all that
embrace's fault
One-half me
One-half you

(My thinking cells
Don't stop breaking up...
Breaking up
Breaking up...)

It's all that
embrace's fault
One-half man
One-half woman

It's all that
embrace's fault
One-half red
One-half green

It's all that
embrace's fault
If it hadn't been
Yell to heaven and clasp at the earth

(My thinking cells
Don't stop breaking up...
Breaking up
Breaking up...)

It's all that
embrace's fault
Disturbing heaven and moving the earth
It's nothing to talk about

(My thinking cells
Don't stop breaking up...
Breaking up
Breaking up...)

A pair of eyes looking at your face's kindness
A spirit flies with you to another world
But the body's like a butterfly with broken wings
Looking at you I become empty-eyed

When I can't see you
Facing myself I still feel cowardly

Broken apart
Broken apart
Sometimes strongly facing it all
Sometimes needing to act wildly

Broken apart
Broken apart
Protecting one person's world
Flowing two people's blood

Broken apart
Broken apart
On one side looking naive and innocent
On the other seeing all as broken

Broken apart
Broken apart
On one side exhausted in strength from love

Saoxing ±½ ¿³ , "Ruining the Mood."

Piling up
Piling up
The poker cards
You, with a single raise
Make me fold

Drunk down
Drunk down
The Coke
You, with a single head-turn
Make me cry

Faking
Faking
The happy life
You, with a single glance
Make me unable to pretend

Forgotten
Forgotten
The loneliness
You, with a single question
Make me remember it all

Ay

It's always
As easy as blowing off dust

You
Take me
From that
Dream world
And drag me out

Refrain 1
(Ay)

It's always
A simple matter

You
Call me
From that
Deep cloudy place
And make me fall

Refrain 2
Carefully and cautiously
Bearing it

You
As soon as you lose concentration
Make me die

So hard
To feel happy

You
With a single sentence
Make me bad again

For a life and a world
Waiting

You
In a second
Make me wake up

Freely and carelessly
Spacing out

You
A pan of cold water
Throw at me

Repeat refrain 1
Repeat refrain 2
Repeat refrain 1
